Channel Section Efficiency Report

Channel Section Efficiency Report

Report Description

The Channel Section Efficiency report calculates the water balance for all pools in the report area including uncertainty calculations. It measures the pool by pool efficiency of the channel by listing the absolute difference between total volume inflow and outflow, and the percentage of the inflow volume supplied for orders.

Use the report to list calculated efficiency pool by pool for the selected area. This can be used to detect anomalous losses or measurement issues.

If you prefer to filter the results, you can run the Channel Flow Inaccuracy Report which allows you to specify threshold values for the volume gap and the pool efficiency.

Area/Regulator

Select either an area, or a specific regulator.

  • If you select an area, the report lists all the regulators and associated pools in the area.

  • If you select a regulator the report lists all regulators and pools downstream of the selected regulator.

Channel

Name of the channel

Pool U/S Regulators

Upstream regulator (that is, the inflow regulator) for this pool

Type

Site type of upstream regulator

Inflow (ML)

Total volume of water that flowed into this pool for the period. This includes water supplied through the upstream regulator and any water flowing in from side channels.

Main Passing Flow (ML)

Total volume of water that flowed out of the pool through the next regulator downstream in the channel (that is, the next regulator that has the same channel attribute value as the regulator at the top of the pool.)

Spur Passing Flow (ML)

Total volume of water that flowed out of the pool through spur channels (that is through adjacent downstream regulators that have a different channel attribute value than the regulator at the top of the pool.

Outfalls (ML)

Total volume of water that flowed out of the pool through outfalls which are the most downstream regulators in a channel. Note that you can use the Channel Section Listing Report to generate a list of outfalls downstream of any regulator.

Metered Deliveries (ML)

Volume delivered to outlets and recorded as meter readings

Estimated Deliveries (ML)

Volume delivered to outlets without meter readings. This may be estimated in two ways:

  • By estimating from order data.

  • By calculating using measured flow tag data.

The estimate will be based on order data unless the outlet type is specified in the Object Type SCADA Volume Parameter.

Total Deliveries (ML)

Sum of the metered and estimated deliveries.

Gap (ML)

Calculated from

Inflow - Total Outflow

Pool Efficiency %

Calculated from

(Total Deliveries / Inflow) x 100

How is the Outflow Volume Calculated?

The volume calculation depends on the type of regulator involved and what tags are configured for the regulator. The report uses the following tags in order of priority:

  • If a Current Group Volume for Season (FLOW_GROUP_ACU_TOTAL) tag is available (this will only apply at a multigate SlipMeter site) then calculate the total volume for the period by subtracting the earliest event value from the latest value in the period.

  • Otherwise if a Volume Increments (FLOW_ACU_SR_INC) tag exists then sum the tag events for the period.

  • Otherwise if a Current Volume for Season (FLOW_ACU_TOTAL) tag exists, then calculate the total for the period by subtracting the earliest event value from the latest value in the period.

  • If none of the above tags are available then integrate the Current Flow (FLOW_VAL) tag events within the period to calculate the volume.
